Wednesday webinar at one: The macro compass - Which way from here?

Wednesday 04 May 2022 | 13:00 - 13:40 | Webinar

This session has been organised by CFA UK's Fixed Income special interest group

This webinar will discuss the current macroeconomic set up and will ask the question, where will the macro compass lead us?

Markets are navigating a regime shift, with investors and policymakers alike struggling to adapt to the new normal. Inflation is at multi-decade highs; a fact that in itself is beginning to influence the political landscape as consumers are having to live with much higher prices.

At the same time as politicians are facing pressure from voters, central bankers are having to withdraw stimulus to reload the “gun” for the next recession. We as market participants try to stay ahead of the game and predict which direction each of the above players will take in the coming months.

In this session the following questions will be addressed:

  • How sticky is inflation and where is the new “2%” inflation?
  • How scary is QT and what should we expect from it?
  • What is the bond market telling us and how likely are these expectations to be realised in the coming months?

Where recordings are made, these are a member benefit that are accessed through the member-only platform, CFA UK Discover.
