CFA UK Sustainability Community’s online networking meetup: Planning for a sustainable future: Transition plans for investors and companies

Tuesday 21 January 2025 | 13:00 - 14:00 | Webinar

This event has been organised by the CFA UK Sustainability Community.

Meet your speaker, our community member James Hulse, Director, Hindsight Consultancy.

With 20 years in finance as a trader and fund manager, James pioneered the world’s first climate change fund in 2008. After leaving the City, he earned a master’s in environmental technology and spent six years working with NGOs, including CDP, where he led the forest program and developed expertise in sustainability. For the past eight years, he has run his own consultancy, specialising in deforestation, data sourcing for ESG, and climate policy.

A recognised expert in deforestation, he has authored key guidance on disclosures (ISSB, TNFD, CSRD) and collaborated on transition plan frameworks as part of the Transition Task Force. His work also includes advising the African Development Bank on creating an ESG hub for African data and working with a major credit rating agency to integrate ESG considerations.

James will make a presentation, we will then have a Q&A followed by moderated networking breakout rooms.

Key Discussion Points:

  • Why Transition Plans Matter: The role of transition plans in managing climate risk, aligning with regulatory frameworks, and supporting long-term sustainability.
  • Getting Started with Transition Plans: Practical steps for asset managers and companies to design and implement effective transition strategies.
  • Best Practices and Standards: Overview of the UK Transition Plan Taskforce's recommendations and their integration into the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), with insights on what makes a transition plan robust and credible.
