CFA UK Sustainability Community virtual meetup: Is climate change losing political support

Tuesday 03 December 2024 | 13:00 - 14:00 | Webinar

This event has been organised by the CFA UK Sustainability Community.

In the recent years, political momentum around climate change in Europe and the UK has shown the first signs of waning. It is more pronounced in n the USA, following recent debates over the SEC’s proposed climate disclosure rules.

Several countries are now scaling back their net-zero targets, a shift that is particularly relevant given the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Africa, and Ukraine. These crises are diverting attention and resources towards defence. As a result, investments crucial for decarbonisation and advancing sustainability efforts are being reduced.

The CFA UK’s Sustainability Community are bringing together experts from the FCA, climate think tanks and senior practitioners to discuss the current political state of play for sustainability in politics. We’ll explore the causes of “ESG fatigue”, its implications for climate and sustainability investing, and the actions investors can take to mitigate the looming climate crisis.

  • Discover How the government support and climate pledges change in different geographical jurisdictions? What are the key trends and considerations?
  •  What is behind decreasing government support to abate climate change?
  • What actions can investors and financiers take to reverse this trend and make an impact?
  • How to enhance skills and knowledge around this subject for the investment community?

You will be able to interact with the panellists and ask your questions afterwards.
