Intense debates have been ignited in financial markets following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with regard to the fate of ESG investing. While some say ESG investing is dead, others continue to believe that environmental and social challenges must be addressed by the investment industry in the coming years.
François Boutin-Dufresne and Lenka Martinek from Sustainable Market Strategies, will bring their unique views of financial markets and the state of ESG.

Speakers
François Boutin-Dufresne, Managing Partner, Sustainable Market Strategies
François Boutin-Dufresne is an investment strategist with 20 years of international experience as an economist in public policy, financial markets and sustainable finance. He has been involved in sustainable finance since 2000 when he published his Master’s thesis on corporate social responsibility and financial risk.
In 2018, he co-founded Sustainable Market Strategies. François’ past roles include being a macroeconomic and financial strategist where he was involved in devising investment strategies in equities, real estate, private equity, bonds and currencies.
François spent 5+ years as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, where he worked on financial sector development in emerging economies and development finance. Prior to his appointment to the IMF, he worked as a macro economist in the Government of Canada, where he notably developed private equity funds with a strong development finance component.
Lenka Martinek, Managing Partner, Sustainable Market Strategies
Lenka Martinek is an investor with over 20 years of professional experience in research and capital markets. She is currently a managing partner at Sustainable Market Strategies and Nordis Capital.
Lenka worked for 15 years as a strategist for BCA Research, the leading provider of independent global macro investment research. During her tenure, she was Chief Strategist of BCA’s daily insights and BCA’s U.S. investment strategy services.
Lenka then worked as a global macro portfolio manager in the CIO office at PSP Investments, one of Canada’s largest pension funds. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Western Ontario. In 2020, she returned to academic life to complete a master’s degree in management and sustainable development from HEC Montréal.
