5 June 2024 - CFA UK has partnered with Content With Purpose (CWP) to produce a wide-ranging digital series exploring the pivotal role of investment professionals in unlocking solutions to climate change, moving to a low-carbon green economy and driving transformational change.

Through a diverse array of future-focused content, including expert interviews and real-world case studies from the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, Serbia and the US, Investing for Tomorrow’s Environment meets the inspiring organisations and thought leaders who are powering the sector’s ESG transformation and accelerating the transition to net zero.

The series sheds light on the crucial role of the investment community in catalysing change, transforming industries, and tackling our toughest global challenges through capital allocations and stewardship. This includes advancing sustainable business models, renewable energy projects, and climate-aligned technologies.

Exploring the urgent need to integrate sustainability and ESG considerations into investment decision-making, the series champions progress in areas such as transition and green finance, impact investing, ESG data and sustainability reporting, green and climate bonds, ESG funds, and policy and regulation.

The series includes comment from industry experts including:

  • James Alexander, CEO, UKSIF
  • Stephanie Pfeifer, CEO, Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC)
  • Kingsmill Bond, Senior Principle Energy Strategist, RMI
  • Kieron Boyle, Chief Executive, Impact Investing Institute
  • David Atkin, CEO, Principles for Responsible Investment
  • Hilary Eastman, Partner at KPMG UK, Chair of CFA UK Board
  • Tom Gosling, Executive Fellow of Finance at the London Business School
  • Laura Hillis, Director of Climate and Environment (Responsible Investment), Church of England Pensions Board.

Among others sharing their voice include Sindhu Krishna, Head of Sustainable Investment at Phoenix Group, the UK’s largest long-term savings and retirement business. Sindhu highlights the UK pension sector's role in determining the flow of capital to sustainable impacts. Robert Gardner, CEO and Co-Founder of Rebalance Earth, and Helen Crowley*, Managing Director at Pollination, examine how the traditional routes into finance have changed to include pathways for graduates with a scientific background, and what this trend means for the future of the sector and the skills required by finance professionals.

Other inspiring organisations featured include: Cinven, Finance Earth, Henley Business School, King’s Business School, Matter, NextEnergy Group, FAIRR, The Green Finance Institute, the University of Edinburgh Business School, Triodos Investment Management, and Verisk Maplecroft.

Commenting on the series, Will Goodhart, Chief Executive of CFA UK says: “This is a pivotal time for the investment profession which has a vital role to play in supporting the transition to net zero. As sustainable investing gathers pace and impact investing moves mainstream, it’s important that we contribute to that momentum by building people’s capabilities. We’re excited to launch this digital series, showcasing Investing for Tomorrow’s Environment. Our hope is that it helps to inform and inspire the wider investment community and empower those who are pioneering progress.”

Max Smith, Founder & Managing Director of CWP, said: “The professional investment community plays a potent and pivotal role as a gatekeeper through which capital is directed into activities or sectors that benefit society and accelerate our transition to a greener economy. As the climate crisis deepens and the imperative to act grows, we’re delighted to present this series and showcase the crucial role of investors as catalysts of change and enablers of much needed solutions.”
