London, United Kingdom, 16 March 2023: On Monday 20th March, CFA Society of the UK (“CFA UK”) will launch the updated version of the Certificate in Climate & Investing (“CCI”).
This qualification enables investment practitioners to understand the systemic impact of climate on investments and how to integrate climate into all areas of the investment chain.
The Certificate in Climate & Investing builds their climate investing knowledge and skills at a time when client demand and expectations are growing due to the urgency of the climate crisis and increasing social, consumer, regulatory and policy pressures. Says Will Goodhart, chief executive at CFA UK: “Clients want to invest in the economies of the future not the past and regulators are keen to make sure that climate investment products can do what it says on the tin. Investment professionals need to be competent in this field and we’re pleased to offer an increasingly accessible, up to date way for them to prove that they have the skills and knowledge that will allow them to play their part in the just transition to net zero”.
Adds Monica Filkova, CFA, Head of Climate & Nature Investment Risk at Aviva and chair of the CFA UK CCI Panel: “Graduates of the CCI qualification are now reaping the benefits of having such crucial foundational climate investing knowledge to aid their career progression. Mastery of the syllabus will ensure candidates feel empowered to make climate decisions on a topic that is rapidly changing.”
CFA UK represents the interests of 12,000 investment professionals and meets investment professionals’ educational needs through the design of topical and relevant certificates. Designed by investment professionals for investment professionals, each CFA UK certificate is reviewed and updated on an annual basis to ensure that it remains at the forefront of learning.
The newly released syllabus applies to candidates sitting CCI from 1 April 2023 to 30 June 2024. Changes include:
- Streamlined content to bring core knowledge to the fore
- Latest developments in climate science, climate-related risks, impacts and opportunities and the evolving policy / regulatory landscape
- Expanded focus on rapidly expanding carbon markets and insurance products
- A structured approach from basic knowledge building blocks through to more advanced application and analysis case studies across multiple geographies and sectors
- Plus, to get a taste of the new CCI learning materials, candidates can now download a PDF of the first chapter for free
By earning the certificate, candidates demonstrate that they have the skills and knowledge to apply a climate lens to all aspects of the investment process. They understand how physical risks and the transition to net zero can impact on the value of assets and investment returns and how these can be protected through mitigation and adaptation approaches.
