It is an independent body that seeks to encourage investors to use responsible investment to enhance returns and better manage business risks. It does not operate for its own profit but seeks to engage with global policy makers. It is supported by, but not part of, the United Nations.
The PRI works to understand the implications of environmental, social and governance factors and to support its international network of investor signatories in incorporating these factors into their investment and ownership decisions. Investor signatories agree to the six Principles of Responsible Investment – a voluntary and aspirational set of investment principles that offer a choice of possible actions for incorporating ESG issues into investment practice.
Through a PRI subsidiary, the PRI Academy, online training programmes are offered which lead to Certificates of Completion. In particular, the following online programmes are offered:
